The hotel is set on the place once occupied by a women's prison and the square itself is still known as "Prison Square" ( Plaza de la Cárcel ). It takes its name from XVII century pottery found in the subsoil, when the prison was pulled down. These historical objects are displayed in the Town Museum and in the hotel reception. Today the "Prison Square" has been preserved and one of its former numerous fountains, built in 1839, can still admired.
