The Hostal del Cardenal is one of those rare establishments that actually give you a feel of medieval life. Situated on the northern edge of Toledo, with an entrance next to the Puerta de Bisagra, the hotel, housed in a beautiful building, is conveniently located for visitors to the area. The facade is a harmonious combination of Castilian masonry and lintels of unpolished granite, with wooden struts and bases. The interior is decadent and exotic - tapestries and stone columns adorn the inner halls while a 16th century polychrome coffered ceiling graces the El Greco dining room. This property used to belong to a Cardinal, the exuberant gardens at the front vouch for that. The hotel house itself, is aft of some elegant steps at the back of the front garden. The period furnishings and antiques in the bedrooms remind the hotel's 18th century heritage. The 27 bedrooms, which are located in the main ground floor and on the first floor, vary mainly in size and location. Some rooms overlook a beautiful inner garden while the others reveal views of the front garden; some of them share a threshold (ideal for families). The bedrooms are very quiet and all equipped with individual air conditioning units and heating, safe boxes, telephone, satellite TV and a hairdryer. The rest of the rooms represent the style of an old "Mansion Toledana", with its diverse salons and pieces, decorated in ceramics, woods and old coffered ceiling, along with the great kitchen with the oven of fine holm oak wood, that provides a unique taste for the dishes cooked in it. There is a free public parking lot right in front of the hotel. Pets are allowed. Major credit cards are accepted except Discover Cards.
