Pintor El Greco Hotel is located in the Jewish quarter, one of the areas of Toledo with most tradition and history.
Directions
The common way of getting to Toledo from outside Spain is by the International Airport of Madrid-Barajas. Toledo is 65 kilometers far from Madrid and a highway easily connects both cities. The recommended Transport from the airport to Toledo is by car. Any wise, three alternatives are proposed to reach Toledo:
1.2.1 Car Rental
In case of choosing this option, the best route to take is as follows: Once out of the airport car rental parking, join up M-14 from the local airport road. Then exit M-14 looking for M-40 highway (A-3, A-4 and A-42 (N-410) direction) and join up M-22. Exit M-22 and join up M-40. Drive through M-40 up to A-42 (N-410). Then take exit 25 to A-42 (N-410) towards Toledo and after 30 minutes you will be there. Once you are seeing Toledo, take exit 68B. Please, take care with the designation of the old N-410 that has been changed to A-42 recently. Both names are for the same road (Madrid-Toledo). May be you could find both designations used in the traffic indicators. Further information in:
http://www.guiacampsa.com/eng/infinito/gcampsa/ruta/calcular/itinerario.asp
Please, type "aeropuerto de madrid barajas" in the "start" box and "Toledo" in the "destination" box. Then try "detailed route" link below the map for a more detailed description of the route.
1.2.2 Train
To get to Toledo it is necessary to take first the METRO at "Airport" station (Terminal 2, upper floor) and follow next journey: Take line 8 (pink) at "Airport" station up to "Nuevos Ministerios" station. Then transfer to line 6 (grey, circular) and take the train towards "Pacifico". At Pacifico a new transfer is needed to join up line 1 (cyan) towards "Atocha-RENFE".
There you are at the train station where you can take the train to Toledo. You have to look for "RENFE" network. The link for the METRO web site is (English version available): http://www.metromadrid.es/
A map of Madrid Underground is included as Appendix A.2.
The link for the RENFE web site is (English version available): http://www.renfe.es
Train services have recently experimented a strong reduction due to the works for the high-speed line (AVE) from Madrid to Toledo. Hence, there no longer be trains each hour during the next months. Furthermore, the train stops at 15 kilometers distance from Toledo. A free bus service will take you up to the city. Therefore, train does not seem a comfortable mean of transport by that time.
1.2.3 Bus
Bus seems to be the best public transport alternative to the car rental. Buses depart each 30 minutes (at o’clock and a half) from "Mendez Alvaro Bus Station" also named "Estacion del Sur (South Bus Station)". T
To reach this bus station, take the METRO at "Airport" station (Terminal 2, upper floor) and follow next journey: Take line 8 (pink) at "Airport" station up to "Nuevos Ministerios" station. Then transfer to line 6 (grey, circular) and take the train towards "Mendez Alvaro". At this station leave the Metro network and get into the bus station.
Once in the bus station, you have to look for "Continental-Auto" company desks in the "0" level to buy the ticket. The buses are taken at the "-1" level downstairs.
1.3 How to reach the venue
Once in Toledo, the challenge is to reach the venue from the A-42 highway. Corners in the real downtown are the only risk to be faced. A-42 Exit 68B directly drives into "calle del Cardenal Tavera". After two rounds about to be performed following straight ahead, "Puerta de la Bisagra" is reached. Then turn right to "Glorieta de la Reconquista" and surround this square to take "Paseo de Recadero" on the right. Drive through this street with Toledo walls on the left up to its end at "Bajada de San Miguel" on the left. You will have the Tajo River on your right. Then go up Bajada de San Miguel and turn right on "Plaza de San Juan de los Reyes" to easily find Paseo del Transito where the hotel is.
